Dried mealworms are the larvae of the darkling beetle (scientifically known as Tenebrio molitor) that have been dried. For chickens specifically, dried mealworms are valued for their protein content, essential nutrients, and their ability to complement the birds' diet by providing a natural source of food that mimics what they might forage for in the wild.
Dried black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens) are a natural source of methionine, which is an important nutrient for chickens and layers. Fly larvae adds no taste to eggs, is cost effective, and more importantly, a sustainable feed. Fly larvae’s high calcium content also supports the production of strong eggshells and overall skeletal health of the birds.
